Why are movies funnier the first time than the second time you watch it?

I saw dinner for schmucks in theatres. I bought it on blu ray today and its not as funny. I told my dad before we bought it is such a great and funny movie and now when he sees it he will probably ne dissapointed lol. Can I return it to fred meyer for another movie? Thanks
